Letter #38 The Reflections on Life's Transience, Prince Siddhartha & the meaning of life
Yea, all things live forever, though at times they sleep and are forgotten - H. Rider Haggard
Dear Friend,
This week has brought about a profound shift in my perspective as I came to the realization that I have crossed a quarter of a century and turned 26. It was an awakening moment that made me acutely aware of the brevity of life and how swiftly the past 25 years have passed by. The ephemeral nature of our existence became strikingly apparent to me for the first time.
Among the various emotions that surfaced during this introspective period, one of the most challenging aspects was witnessing the aging process of my grandparents and parents. It is truly heart-wrenching to see those we hold dear growing older, serving as a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of time.
In contemplating the transitory nature of life, I find myself drawing parallels to Prince Siddhartha, who left his kingdom upon realizing the profound meaning of existence. While I may not embark on a similar journey, I can empathize with his desire to seek a deeper understanding of life's purpose.
Throughout my life, my mother's unconditional love has been an unyielding fortress, akin to the protective walls of Prince Siddhartha's kingdom. However, as I too age, I feel these walls gradually weakening, making me appreciate the impermanence of everything.
Reflecting on the meaning of life, I am reminded of my grandfather, the greatest man I have ever known. Despite coming from a small village in the Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh and never having the opportunity to attend school, he managed to create generational wealth through his determination, benefiting countless families. Whenever I spend time with him, I am reminded that despite being in his late seventies, he exudes a youthful spirit, embracing the belief that life exists in the present moment and that the goal is to savor and enjoy each and every moment.
I’ll write again, my friend.
Yours,
