Letter #26 Coming back to Life, Redemption & Retrain your brain
Any fool can be happy. It takes a man with real heart to make beauty out of the stuff that makes us weep. ― Clive Barker
Dear Friend,
As I sit down to write this letter, I find myself listening to 'Coming Back to Life' by Pink Floyd, a song that has always held a special place in my heart. Its haunting melody and poignant lyrics remind me that no matter how difficult life can get, there is always a chance for redemption and renewal. This song served as a constant source of comfort and inspiration for me in 2019, when I was struggling to get out of bed and find the motivation to face each day.
Through my struggles, I have come to realize that in order to overcome the deepest, darkest feelings, I must embrace change. Though it can be difficult to let go of the past and begin anew, the rewards of doing so can be truly beautiful. 'Coming Back to Life' reminds me that no matter how far I may have fallen, there is always a chance to rise again and find redemption.
It was in my first year of my college that I discovered the beauty of reading books on my own. A friend gave me a copy of Khaled Hosseini's 'The Kite Runner', a book that would forever change my perspective on redemption. Through the character of Amir, the novel explores the complexities of atonement, as he struggles to come to terms with the guilt and shame he feels over his past actions. It is a powerful and poignant story, reminding us that even in the darkest of circumstances, there is always a chance to make amends and find a path to inner peace and forgiveness.
I believe that our brains have the capacity to heal and that with time and the right environment, we can rewire our thought patterns. If you're struggling, remember that this too shall pass, and even the smallest change can make a significant difference in your life. Keep moving forward, my friend, and know that there is always a chance for redemption and renewal.
I’ll write again, my friend.
Yours,
